The 5 most important questions to ask in People Management – Part 5

Proper People Management is one of the most crucial skills any founder or manager of some kind should have. Being successful here, is the precondition to being successful as a business. But of course, that is easier said than done. To reduce the complexity of proper People Management, I defined 5 questions you should ask yourself. If your answer to any of these 5 questions is any less than 100%, then you have got some serious work to do.
The fifth and last question of this first series is: What % of all your team members is fitting your company culture?
This question is all about your company culture and motivation. Probably the most difficult one yet. As the saying goes: Culture eats Strategy for breakfast. This means that no matter how good of a plan or strategy, an explicit company culture is essential, conditional and very powerful. You could have the right people on board, totally aligned, fit for their tasks and a good atmosphere, but results could still be disappointing. Or after some setbacks, you notice a drop in motivation of your team.
Describing your company culture in terms of your company values is the first step. Be specific and avoid popular and hollow wording. Be realistic as well. A dog will never climb a tree. Yet most companies forget to make the next step, which is translating those company values into specific behavior. This is where you can set “the tone” of your company culture.
The last part is to incentify your team members to the desired behavior. This is done by setting an example yourself and by valuing and supporting others to do so too. And be intolerant to non-acceptable behavior.
Are you setting the example? Think about it.
