The 5 most important questions to ask in People Management – Part 2
Proper People Management is one of the most crucial skills any founder or manager of some kind should have. Being successful here, is the precondition to being successful as a business. But of course, that is easier said than done. To reduce the complexity of proper People Management, I defined 5 questions you should ask yourself. If your answer to any of these 5 questions is any less than 100%, then you have got some serious work to do.
The second question is: What % of all of your team members are able to tell you the company’s strategy, goals and their individual contribution to this?
This is all about alignment, ensuring the entire team is collectively working on a shared strategy, goal and plan. Unfortunately, my observation is that many companies – regardless of their size – fail miserably here. There are different reasons for this.
It might be that you have a strategy, but haven’t updated or clearly defined it. Or you have, but it is already some time ago that this was communicated to your team. Regular meetings with all your team members are crucial. Repeating the strategy might look redundant, but is key for alignment. And, even more importantly: describe the expected contribution of every team member on the strategy and set goals.
Today’s employees ask for this, and you have to deliver. Doing so you create a direct relationship between the company goals and any team members’ goals. In one of my next posts I will describe this so called KPI Waterfall.
